Mazda 5 has the traditional Mazda drive with the space of a mini-minivan. It is praised by reviewers for its fuel economy and size and its economical sticker price.
The Mazda 5 is in a class of its own. Placing it in between the SUV and minivan, Mazda calls it a sporty crossover. It has a sleek look and resembles something of a mini-minivan, with its easy access sliding doors. Buyers can choose from additional optional features, including a moon roof, spoiler and window tint, to enhance its modern design. An Economical, Fuel Efficient CarThe Mazda 5 gets good reviews for being one of the most fuel efficient cars in its class. The 2008 version boasts the EPA’s Smartway certification mark in air pollution, fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions. With 21-28 miles per gallon, it has a higher fuel economy than most vehicles with similar cargo/passenger space. Starting at around $20,000, it is also one of the cheapest in its class. The three rows each have two seats, though the third row is better suited for small children. When all six seats are full of passengers, there is a small space behind the third row accessible with the hatchback door. When empty, each of the four rear seats can lay flat independently of one another. This creates several unique options for toting passengers and cargo. Well-Known Mazda Engine and DriveDespite its larger size and extra space, the car drives well. It has plenty of the Mazda zoom, and the brakes are nice and tight. However, Mazda’s site claims an NHTSA rating of 5 stars in a frontal impact and driver’s side crash test. Edmund’s review gives the Mazda 5 an overall positive ranking, praising it as affordable, fuel efficient and easy to maneuver. Edmunds compares the Mazda 5 to the Kia Rondo, which boasts an extra seat but lacks the benefit of sliding doors. Who Should Buy a Mazda 5?Mazda 5 is a great car for families with small children. It is also a good sized car for smaller families or individuals who need extra cargo space.
